3/20 Alice Cooper Doc To Premiere Next Month

In his most highly anticipated onscreen appearance since the legendary cameo in the film Wayne’s World, shock rock icon Alice Cooper is set to once again grace the silver screen. On April 17th, the documentary ‘Super Duper Alice Cooper’ will formally debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The film, directed by Reginald Harkema, Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn details the extraordinary life and times of one of rock music’s most divisive and celebrated heroes.

Born in 1948 as Vincent Furnier, in Detroit, Michigan, Cooper moved to Los Angles in the 1960’s where he made a real name for himself with his startling horror-inspired stage persona and caustic vocal delivery. In 1972, Cooper and his band released the album ‘School’s Out’ to enormous mainstream success solidifying their place as one of rock’s biggest names. This release was followed the next year by the even bigger selling record, ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ featuring the now classic songs, ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy,’ ‘Generation Landslide’ and of course the near ubiquitous title track.

Throughout the 1970’s, Cooper battled a variety of addictions, most notably to alcohol, that, by the end of the decade, had taken a noticeable toll on his appearance and his vocal ability. In the aftermath of his group’s 1977 tour, Cooper voluntarily checked himself into a sanitarium in the hopes of exorcising his demons. Newfound sobriety brought new perspective and raised hopes for the future and for nearly forty-years since kicking the bottle, Cooper has held down a position as one of rock’s most beloved and well-regarded figures.

Along with Cooper himself, the documentary features appearances by other music industry luminaries such as Elton John, Iggy Pop, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider and the Sex Pistols' singer John Lydon. For those unable to attend the premier screening in New York, the documentary will be screened at 250 different cinemas across America on April 30th, and March 1st with a special pre-recorded ‘Keep Calm & Just Ask Alice’ Q&A featurette included as part of the event.
