36 Pets Find Fur-Ever Home Thanks To Lawton Animal Welfare

The problem of pet overpopulation and homeless animals is evident across southwest Oklahoma, and no where less apparent than in the City of Lawton. Lawton Animal Welfare took a great stride on Friday with their St. Patrick's Day themed "O'dopt O'thon".

Pet adopters were waiting for the doors to open first thing Friday morning as the line stretched out the door as early as an hour before the event even began. Thanks to donations from 7-Up and the Little Dam Bait Shop, the adoption fees were waived for the first 21 adoptions, but love was definitely in the air, as 11 cats and 25 dogs found their new fur-ever homes.

Also during the event, 6 pets that had been lost were re-united with their families, in part due to the event. But the event is far from over, continuing today, with 26 animals that were awaiting surgery on Friday, eligible to go home with new families as early as Saturday morning, with adoptions from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
