Ace Frehley’s Real-Life ‘Spinal Tap’ Mexican Adventure
We're continuing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of 'This is Spinal Tap' by asking rockers to share some of their crazy stories from their life on the road. Our latest one comes from Ace Frehley, who tells us of a crazy day that involved three countries and a model.
The event took place during his time with Kiss. "I remember once when we were on tour," he says in the video above. "I woke up in Canada. I had dinner in...Texas, and then we ended up in Mexico City because we had a stadium show the next night. It was like in three different countries in one day."
As if all that traveling wasn't enough, it was while he was south of the border that the benefits of being a world-famous rock star began to surface. "I get to my hotel, and in the lobby is this really cute Mexican model, and she had blonde hair, [which is] very rare in Mexico -- most of the women have dark hair. So I invite her up to my room."
Naturally, we're not going to give away the ending. You'll have to watch the video for that. Besides, it sounds better coming from Ace's mouth than written on your screen. But even without having the disorienting feeling of being in three countries in one day, it probably still would have been a surreal experience.
