Starting Feb. 28, The American Red Cross will launch their 2014 Heroes Campaign as well as Red Cross Month which begins on March 1.

The Heroes Campaign is a concept that recruits individuals that serve as 'Heroes.' When a person becomes a hero they agree to help raise $1,000 for their local Red Cross chapter.

These 'Heroes' may work alone or may choose to involve their company, civic club, church, or school in their fund raising efforts. An individual or business may also choose to donate the needed money.

During the month of March the American Red Cross recognizes the country's everyday heroes who reach out to help people when they are in need. Red Cross volunteers, who are some of the greatest heroes for communities in need, help disaster victims get on the road to recovery.

Anyone can be a hero to the American Red Cross. From rushing to the aid of disaster stricken areas, giving blood, helping a neighbor, financial donations or just simply brightening up the day for an injured service member, there is a hero in all of us.

During Red Cross month, the organization is hoping that people will be able to work on a preparedness plan for their families and businesses so individuals can be prepared when disaster strikes. Making a financial donation or giving blood as well as becoming a Red Cross volunteer are some of the other objectives they have during the month of March.

The Red Cross relies on donations of money and time to accomplish their missions around the world. The Red Cross also provides 40% of the nation's blood supply. For every dollar donated an average of 91 cents goes to humanitarian services and programs. The remaining nine cents goes towards operation costs.

Join the Red Cross on Feb. 28., at the Fort Sill National Bank at 10 a.m., as they kick-off their 2014 Heroes Campaign. Community Manager of The Red Cross chapter of Central and Western Oklahoma, Daniel Farrell will introduce 'Heroes' and families that will provide testimonies of the assistance the Red Cross provides.

After the kickoff ceremony, join Townsquare Media and The American Red Cross at Atlanta Bread from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m, on Feb. 28. Volunteers, Heroes and community leaders will carry food to customers and serve cookies. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.
