‘Divergent’ Taps ‘Age of Adaline’ Director for Final Sequel ‘Ascendant’
A few weeks back, Divergent series director Robert Schwentke abruptly dropped out of the final sequel, Ascendant, a little over a month before the latest installment hits theaters. With Allegiant on the horizon and one more Divergent sequel to go, Lionsgate has quickly found Schwentke’s replacement in Age of Adaline director Lee Toland Krieger.
Daisy Ridley Confrms ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Picks Up Where ‘The Force Awakens’ Left Off
Lucasfilm released an announcement video a couple of weeks ago to kick off production on Star Wars: Episode VIII, showing just a tiny glimpse of footage that made it look as if Rian Johnson was picking up where J.J. Abrams left off. If you had any doubts that Episode VIII would begin where The Force Awakens ends, Daisy Ridley has confirmed that this is definitely the case — and that Luke Skywalker will have much more to do this time around.
‘The Jungle Book’ Grabs Your Attention With New TV Spot as Ticket Pre-Sale Begins
Tickets for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be available on February 29 (that’s tomorrow, FYI), with the movie hitting theaters about a month later, on March 25. Disney is banking on similarly huge business for Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book, as the studio has officially launched ticket pre-sales as of today, even though the film doesn’t hit theaters for another two months. If that isn’t enough to get your attention, then maybe this new TV spot will.
Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’ Gets an Earlier Release Date
Although Alien: Covenant is a horror film, its planned October 2017 release seemed a little too on-the-nose, especially for a blockbuster sci-fi project. With an increasingly excellent cast, we’re fairly excited for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel, which makes today’s news of an earlier release date pretty wonderful.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Ultimate Ticket Will Let You See the Movie as Many Times as You Want
Following in the footsteps of previous unlimited passes for films like Spectre and Interstellar, Regal is offering a fans a chance to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as many times as they want (or until their brains melt and there’s nothing left but the hollow shell of a person). There is a catch, of course: There’s a limited number of these special passes, which will allow you to see Zack Snyder’s superhero epic as frequently as you’d like during the film’s entire theatrical run.
Key and Peele’s ‘Keanu’ Gets Some Perfect Oscar-Ready Posters
One of our most anticipated films of the year is Keanu, the kidnapped kitten comedy from the brilliant minds of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. And one of the most anticipated events of the year (for serious film fans) is the annual Academy Awards, which airs tomorrow night. What happens when you combine the adorable kitten from Keanu with some of this year’s nominees? It’s pretty darn cute.
‘Star Wars’ Will Soon Have Its First Openly Gay Character
Much has been made of the diversity in the new era of Star Wars, with J.J. Abrams smartly casting the franchise’s first black and female leading characters in John Boyega’s Finn and Daisy Ridley’s Rey. They weren’t the only diverse part of The Force Awakens, which boasted a noticeably varied assortment of genders and ethnicities in its supporting and extras casting, but many fans are still wondering when — or if — we might see an openly gay character in the newly inclusive franchise. According to J.J. Abrams, it will happen, and soon.
‘Ghostbusters’ Star Michael K. Williams Confirms Slimer’s Return
There have been rumors since last fall that one particularly slimy character from the original Ghostbusters film would be returning for Paul Feig’s new film, seemingly confirmed by an IMDb credit. But then Feig went and did what J.J. Abrams tried to do with that whole Khan / Star Trek Into Darkness thing — he flat-out denied it, even though this was a pretty viable rumor about a character we all sort of expected would appear. Guess what? The rumor was true, and Ghostbusters star Michael K. Williams has confirmed it himself.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Prequel Comic Coming to a Bag of Doritos Near You
If you’re particularly invested in the stories of Batman and Superman pre-Dawn of Justice, then Warner Bros. is about to test your devotion by offering a new Batman v Superman prequel comic — but only if you buy a bag of Doritos at Wal-Mart and surrender your fingers to bright orange cheese dust. If that seems okay to you, then you’ll be rewarded with a digital prequel story that helps set the stage for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film.
First Look at ‘The Force Awakens’ C-3PO Prequel Comic That Explains His Red Arm
Not long ago we learned that Disney and Marvel had plans for a C-3PO prequel comic that would explain how the endearing droid got that red arm in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Episode VIII doesn’t arrive until 2017, so if you can’t wait that long to find out why C-3PO has a weird new appendage, Star Wars Special: C-3PO #1 has your answer. And although this first look at the upcoming comic doesn’t really shed any light on the matter, it does give you a nice sneak peek.
