The city of Gaithersburg, Maryland has hired two herds of goats to clear a field which had become overrun with grass and weeds. And no, this isn't an indication of what's to come now that so many local governments are going broke.

With all the talk of how broke the US government is, you might be surprised to learn there’s over a billion one-dollar coins sitting unused in Federal Reserve vaults. And the US Mint is still cranking them out. NPR’s Planet Money and Investigations teams found that the coins are the wasteful byproducts of a failed congressional effort to get Americans to use them in everyday commerce.

A new store is taking on Whole Foods in the company’s hometown of Austin, Texas. Like the well-known chain, In.gredients will specialize in local and organic edibles, but with one key difference — it vows to be first “package-free, zero waste grocery store” in the US.
