According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average American home is 2,700 square feet. And many families would say even that isn't big enough.

How about living in 10 square feet?

That's what The Cube Project wants you to consider. Dr. Mike Page, at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, has built a compact home that's 10 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 10 feet high in which one person can allegedly live comfortably -- with a minimum impact on the environment.

Inside you'll find a living room with a table and two custom-made chairs, a small double bed, a full-size shower, an energy-efficient kitchen with plenty of storage, a washing machine, and a composting toilet. LED lights, an Ecodan air-source heat pump, cork flooring, and solar panels add to its eco-friendly appeal.

Of course everything could also be included in a much larger home, but take a look and you'll see how remarkably livable this little box could be.
