Glee alum Darren Criss will play the role of serial killer Andrew Cunanan — who murdered at least five people over the course of three months in 1997, including renowned fashion designer Gianni Versace — in the forthcoming Season 3 of Ryan Murphy’s FX drama, Versace: American Crime Story.

Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez, meanwhile, will make his debut on American television playing the role of Versace in the upcoming season, according to Variety.

The story will reportedly follow the plot of the novel Vulgar Favors, written by Vanity Fair’s Maureen Orth. Tom Rob Smith has signed on to write and executive produce along with Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Brad Falchuk.

Earlier rumors indicated Lady Gaga — who previously won an Emmy for her role as the Countess on Murphy’s other FX show American Horror Story: Hotel — had been cast to play Donatella Versace.

But Murphy denied the claims, saying via Variety, “When you’re going to do a show like Versace, it’s a five-month commitment, it’s a very big show, we’re shooting it all over the world. So I just don’t think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked. But I would love to work with her on something in the future.”

Production for Versace will commence in March, but the season won’t air until 2018, after Season 2 — titled Katrina: American Crime Story, which is based on the aftermath surrounding the events of Hurricane Katrina — airs before it in 2018.
