The Democratic National Convention hit Philadelphia on Monday (July 25), where Demi Lovato was in town to help the party send a message of unwavering confidence to the GOP.

After declaring her support for democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, the pop star rocked the Wells Fargo Center with a live performance of her single "Confident." Ditching the usual dance moves and slinky stage prowling, the singer opted for a more subdued rendition, spending most of the performance standing at the mic while flanked by two backup singers.

Before performing, the artist delivered an emotional speech where she spoke on mental illness and how it's possible to live a "normal and empowered life" with the help of proper treatment.

"Like millions of Americans, I am living with mental illness," Lovato said. "But I'm lucky. I have the resources and support to get treatment a top facility. Unfortunately, too many Americans from all walks of life don’t get help, either because they fear the stigma or they can not afford treatment. Untreated mental illness can lead to devastating consequences including suicide, substance abuse and long term medical issues. We can do better. Every one of us can make a difference."

She also urged politicians to educate themselves on the "epidemic" of mental illness, and to "support laws that will provide better access to healthcare and support for everyone."

"This is not about politics. It's simply the right thing to do," the performer added, sharing, "I'm proud to support a presidential candidate who will fight to ensure all people living with mental health conditions get the care they need to lead fulfilling lives. That candidate is Hillary Clinton."
