Today, an announcement that we never thought would ever happen came when Dynamite Comics revealed their plans to publish a series that will see the swashbuckling Mexican hero Zorro team up with Django, the slave-turned-bounty-hunter from Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained.' But especially interesting is that Tarantino himself will actually have a hand in 'Django/Zorro,' co-plotting it with writer Matt Wagner.

Crossovers and team-ups are common in the comic-book world, and Dynamite hasn't been shy about mixing and matching its various licensed characters -- Zorro, The Shadow, The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet all seem to share the same comic universe, and have frequently embarked on adventures together. Django seems like a weird choice -- though he already got a solo comic-book run, he's a new character from a modern movie placed in the same world as a bunch of classic pulp icons -- but it's entirely plausible that the hero could venture southwest and encounter Mexico's famed vigilante. We're sure they'd find some common ground.

Said Tarantino of the new series (found via Comics Alliance):

I’m very, very excited about both this story and the opportunity to work with Matt. It was reading his 'Zorro' stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting new chapter for both characters.

There is no artist attached to the project yet, and no release date has been announced, but 'Django/Zorro' sounds like something that demands our attention. If it gives a filmmaker as brash and interesting as Tarantino a chance to dabble in the comic-book medium, it's worth a look!
