Han Solo Hopefuls Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor Respond to ‘Star Wars’ Rumors
The most recent reports regarding the young Han Solo movie have Taron Egerton, Jack Reynor and Alden Ehrenreich on the shortlist for the Star Wars spinoff, with rumors that the actors have already screen-tested for Lucasfilm. Just the other day, Miles Teller confirmed that he auditioned for the part, and now Egerton and Reynor are responding to the rumors — or not responding, rather. Their reactions are pretty interesting, to say the least.
It’s hard to know what to make of it, but it seems telling that Teller confirmed his audition, whereas Egerton and Reynor both dodge questions about their potential casting in new interviews. The Kingsman star appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show, where he maintained that he has not been contacted by Lucasfilm about Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo movie — though he does offer a great Chewbacca impression:
Meanwhile, during an interview with JOE.ie about his charming new musical Sing Street, Reynor acted rather oblivious about the Han Solo movie, noting that it would be a great part for any actor and revealing that he auditioned for Star Wars: The Force Awakens:
So, what to make of these reactions? Teller was on an earlier reported shortlist for the young Han Solo role along with Dave Franco, Ansel Elgort, and…drumroll…Jack Reynor, among others. Now that Teller has confirmed his audition, it’s probably safe to assume that he didn’t get the part — if so, he probably wouldn’t be talking about it.
As for Egerton and Reynor, if actors are playing this coy about something, that’s typically because they can’t confirm or deny anything — well, they can deny, but that’s really all they’re allowed to do. Reynor’s name has popped up both times the Han Solo shortlist has been reported, but there are also several actors whose names haven’t been shared, so maybe Egerton has been in the running for just as long.
Basically, it’s hard to make anything of these interviews, but it’s fun to speculate about just how dodgy Egerton and Reynor are being about the whole thing. Lord and Miller’s Han Solo spinoff hits theaters in 2018, so we may be waiting for quite a while before Lucasfilm makes anything official.
