Kim Burrell's loud, homophobic tirade was silencedtoday (January 5) by The Ellen Degeneres Show, where Pharrell and the show's titular host urged humankind to be more compassionate.

Degeneres confirmed yesterday (January 4) that Burrell, who was scheduled to perform a song called "I See Victory" from the Hidden Figures soundtrack, was scrapped from the lineup after a video sermon made its way online in which Burrell condemns gay men and women. Degeneres, who is openly gay, explained that she didn't feel comfortable welcoming Burrell to the stage.

"[Burrell] made a statement, and she said some very not nice things about homosexuals, so I didn't feel that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she's saying things about me," she said.

And Degeneres' guest, Pharrell, said there is simply no place for hate in the world. Pharrell, who wrote the Hidden Figures soundtrack, was scheduled to perform with Burrell, but delivered a set solo, instead.

"There's no space, there's no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017 and moving on," he said. "[Burrell]'s a fantastic singer. I love her, just like I love everybody else, and we all got to get used to that — we all have to get used to everyone's differences and understand that this is a big, gigantic, beautiful, colorful world, and it only works with inclusion and empathy."

"Live and let live," he concluded. "Love and let love."
