UPDATE: Fergie's impending return to pop queendom may be even closer than anticipated. In addition to teasing the world with a clip from an upcoming new music video on Instagram Friday (May 20), The Dutchess also teased a crowd in Lisbon with a new song.

Appearing at the Rock in Rio music festival, the Black Eyed Peas singer debuted a new track, performing the '90s freestyle/house-lite jam live. Rumored to be her and Nicki Minaj's long-awaited collaboration, potentially called "You Already Know," the song emphasizes Fergie's MC skills once more, and features a (bizarrely last-minute) shout-out from Minaj: "Make some noise for my girl, Fergie-Ferg."

ORIGINAL POST (MAY 20): The return of The Dutchess is imminent.

Fergie officially implemented Phase 2 of her 2016 comeback today (May 20), unveiling a 20-second preview of a new video. Shot in austere black and white, the clip sees Fergie vamping in various couture outfits, dramatically hacking off her own hair and licking what we can only hope is the same eye exam equipment from Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience cover. What does it all mean??

The new song, "Hungry" — or what we've heard of it so far — takes a notably harder tack than 2015's "L.A.LOVE (la la)," a warm, DJ Mustard-produced paean to her hometown. It seems to sample Australian duo Dead Can Dance's "The Host of Seraphim" from 1988, and placing Fergie's rap skills ahead her singing is an interesting choice as well. Fortunately, fans won't likely have to wait long to see the video in full, given that Fergie's slated to play London's Wireless Fest on July 10. She's probably going to roll out some new material before then, no?

The Black Eyed Peas member told The Daily Mail back in July 2015 that she’s definitely working on a long (LONG) awaited follow-up to 2006's The Dutchess.

“It’s about, I believe, seven years of ideas from different parts,” she said. “From tour, to being pregnant — just all different aspects of life, which is weird because The Dutchess was a compilation of seven years’ worth of songs, as well. So it’s kind of, a little bit, meant to be. It’s kind of weird. It’s kind of an omen.”
