Four people, including the gunman, died in a workplace shooting Thursday in Hesston, Kan, while 14 others were injured. Five of those are in critical condition.

The man who opened fire at Excel Industries has been identified as 38-year-old Cedric Ford, who was killed in a shootout with police. Police killed Ford.

Ford also reportedly opened fire at two other places before reaching Excel Industries, a company which manufactures lawn products with about 1,000 employees.Authorities got wind of the shooting there a little after 5 p.m.

No motive has been given for why Ford went on the rampage, although the Associated Press reports his girlfriend had received a protection from abuse hours before he carried out the shootings. It was the second order he had gotten. Police also say the shootings appear to have been random.

Ford also has a history of criminal conduct, including burglary, fleeing police, grand theft, carrying a concealed weapon and prowling. While his motive does remain a mystery, officials say it was not an act of terrorism.

This incident is the second high-profile shooting with the last week. Last weekend, a man in Kalamazoo, Mich., went on a random spree in which six people died.
