Groundhog Day was more eventful than usual in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin Monday morning as their resident rodent prognosticator, Jimmy the Groundhog, tried to take a bite out of the mayor’s face while relaying his Groundhog Day forecast. Heroically holding it together, despite rubbing his ear and checking his fingers for blood, Mayor Jonathon Freund announced that Jimmy the Groundhog had not seen his shadow.

How accurate is that groundhog?  Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous of prognosticators, predicts a longer winter about 87% of the time.  His track record has him at about a 39% accuracy.  So, although it is a fun tradition, I wouldn’t take Phil’s or Jimmy's forecast to heart.
