Jimmy Fallon Discusses Bruce Springsteen Collaboration on ‘Blow Your Pants Off’ Album

Jimmy Fallon continues to work with some of the top music talent in late night, and it’s paying off as the comedian-turned-talk show host has just issued a new album called ‘Blow Your Pants Off.’

Fallon, who is known for his musical impersonations, caught up with Tommy Griffiths from Washington D.C.’s Big 100.3 and discussed how he managed to get Bruce Springsteen to do a performance of Willow Smith‘s ‘Whip My Hair’ for the show.

He recalls, “I got to talk to Springsteen on the phone and he was coming on to promote a new CD that he had and I said, ‘I was thinking about maybe doing a duet with you if you don’t mind where I play Neil Young and you are you and we sing ‘Whip My Hair’ from Willow Smith.’ And he goes, ‘I am not familiar with that song.’”

But after a crash course over the phone from Fallon, Springsteen not only said he was in, but also had some ideas for the performance. Fallon recalls, “He says, ‘I like it, I like it, but I’ve got an idea … I wanna dress like me from the ’70s … I’ll wear like a floppy hat.’ I said, ‘Do you want us to get you like a beard and a wig?’ and he’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.’”

Fallon says he never imagined that Springsteen would even agree to do the performance, but was amazed when he offered his services plus added suggestions. The talk show host admits that Springsteen was so good as his younger self that some of the audience members were fooled. Fallon says, “We did it once in front of a live audience and at first you can hear the people like, they don’t realize it’s really Bruce Springsteen … People think it’s an impersonator.”

The ‘Late Night’ host concludes, “The guys amazing and the fact that he did that opened the door for me to get a lot of people, a lot of other people – Paul McCartney and all those guys.”

Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Blow Your Pants Off’ album, which also features guest appearances from McCartney and Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder, is out now.
