How many times can people mess up before the phrase "We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes" rings totally hollow? It's been a roller coaster 2017 for Kendall Jenner, who famously engaged in an offensive Pepsi ad in the spring only to find herself again in hot water this week. That ad -- not conceived by Kendall, but certainly something in which she willingly partook -- showed a lack of sensitivity to serious social issues. And it appears that the model didn't "learn" from the experience, because along with her sister Kylie Jenner, she recently decided to dabble in some brand misappropriation in order to release a new T-shirt line.

Kendall + Kylie's shirts featured images of the sisters superimposed over those of popular bands Pink Floyd and The Doors, as well as deceased rappers Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. The garments had been priced at $125 each. Why the women signed off on the designs, which were never approved by any of the musicians or their estates, remains a mystery, but they have stopped selling the tees in response to backlash.

Biggie's mom, Voletta Wallace, is among those leading the charge against the Jenners.

On Instagram, she wrote, “I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this. The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!”

And the lawyer for Biggie’s estate, Julian K. Petty, sent a cease and desist letter to Kylie and Kendall. He said, “This is misappropriation at its finest. I’m curious to hear the justification. I’m even more curious to hear the proposed resolution.”

Kendall and Kylie Jenner shared an open apology regarding their shirts, tweeting, “These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists. We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway. The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes and again, we are very sorry.”

Do you think this time the ladies have truly "learned" their lesson? Only time will tell.
