The event will focus on several Comanche County women who have been nominated for their contributions that have helped improve the quality of life for women in the county. Nomination forms are available at the City of Lawton City Manager’s office or visit the Facebook page at Lawton Fort Sill Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women.  Or CLICK HERE and download and print it. Deadline for nominations is March 15, 2013.

This annual event celebrates women and their efforts to improve services for women in Comanche County. Previous honorees include Dr. Linda Dzialo, for her dedication to education excellence; Barbara Burk, for her efforts to help women involved in abusive domestic situation; JoAnn Vangel, for her work with the Lawton Public Schools and promoting the needed improvements; and Tara Gilbert, for her work in the community through her ministry.
The Commission was created in 1989 to identify issued faced by women in the Lawton Fort Sill community, advise the Mayor and City Council of these challenges and seek remedies.
Members are appointed and approved by their City Council, County Representatives and the Mayor and comprise a cross-section of women from throughout Comanche County.
