Legendary College Football Coach Joe Paterno Passes Away At 85

The sports world and college football has lost a true legend, Joe Paterno, former Penn State football coach, passed away Sunday at the age of 85. Coach Paterno holds the record for the most victories by an NCAA Division I Football Bowl history with 409 and all of them came at Penn. St University. Coach Paterno coached five undefeated teams that won major bowl games and he coach two of his Penn. St teams to National Titles in 1982 and 1986 and in 2007, Coach Paterno was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach.

Joe Paterno was born December 21, 1926,  and anyone that has ever heard Coach Paterno speak knows that there is no doubt he was born in Brooklyn, New York,.  In 1944, Paterno graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory School and then entered the Army, after serving a year in the Army, he attended Brown University was  a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity . He played quarterback and cornerback, and Paterno graduated with the Brown University Class of 1950. After graduating from Brown University his father wanted Joe to go the Law school , but  Paterno had other ideas and  joined his college coach Rip Engle as an assistant coach at Penn State Football staff  in 1950, the after Engle retired from Penn St University after the 1965 season, and Paterno was named his successor. If you listen through out today and the rest of the week you will hear his former players say that he was a great man that truly cared about his family, players and Penn St University.
