Adding fuel to the fire in Hollywood’s current state of ongoing sexual harassment and assault accusations, Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner spoke out regarding allegations made by actress Aurora Perrineau against show writer Murray Miller.

According to a report by EW on November 17, Perrineau filed a complaint against the writer accusing him of raping her in 2012 when she was 17. However, Dunham and Konner released a statement later that same evening defending Miller.

“While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year,” they wrote.

“It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue.”

In Perrineau’s report obtained by The Wrap, the young actress claimed she woke up naked in Miller’s bed and had sexual intercourse without consent after a night of consuming alcoholic beverages with friends.

However, according to Miller’s attorney, Matthew Walerstein, the show writer denies such “outrageous claims” and says his team “gathered overwhelming evidence directly contradicting these false and offensive claims.”
