Matt Kenseth Wins Daytona 500 [VIDEO]

It took three days to get in "The Great American Race" finished and like James Taylor sang " I've seen fire and I've seen rain" but when it all was said and done Matt Kenseth was the champion of the 2012 Daytona 500.

There was a frantic race to the checked flag at the 2012 Daytona 500 but in the end Kenseth who led the final 38 laps of the race held off Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Greg Biffle to win the 54th running of the Daytona 500 Monday night at the Daytona International Speedway. This was Kenseth's 22nd career victory and Kenseth became on the 9th driver in NASCAR history to win multiple 500's , Kenseth also won in 2009 and with his win last night he pockets a cool 1.5 Million dollars and takes the early lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The Daytona 500 has seen its share of shocking races over the years, but nothing that has even come close to this years running of the 54th running of the Daytona 500, this Daytona 500 was like no NASCAR race you have even seen, forget the fact it took the better part of three days to get it in with all the rain that moved through Central Florida the last three day and forget the few dozen cautions from the wrecks that start early on lap number 2, in all my years of watching NASCAR I have never seen a car hit a jet dryer and cause a fire that delayed the Daytona 500 for 2 hours.

With 40 laps to go in the race the Number 42 car driven by Juan Pablo Montoya came off pit road and was driving down the backstretch and was about to enter Turn 3 when something broke on his car and sent him sliding sideways across the track. Montoya had no control of his car and went sliding a truck carrying a jet dryer that was slowly driving along the outside wall of the track and blowing dust and dirt away. The truck carries as much as 200 gallons of jet fuel and immediately bust in to flames, both the driven of the truck and Juan Pablo Montoya were OK and escaped with minor injuries.
