Nelly Furtado is returning with her sixth studio album The Ride at the end of March, and her latest funky, strut-friendly track off of the LP — "Cold Hard Truth," released today (Jan. 27) — might be the best offering from the set yet.

Last night (Jan. 26), the "Maneater" singer-songwriter brought the song to life on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

The performance was great in its own right, but there was one socially conscious detail you wouldn't have necessarily caught just by watching: her ornate stage outfit was entirely designed and styled by queer people of color.

As OUT points out, the whole ensemble was queer: "Styled by Brooklyn's Phil Gomez, another queer POC, Furtado was dressed in a Nicopanda blouse, designed by OUT100's Nicola Formichetti, faux cowhide coat by rising queer brand Daimorf, necklaces from Chris Habana and wide-legged lace trousers by Gypsy Sport. While these details are largely insider knowledge, Furtado's fashionable protest is valuable in creating visibility for independent LGBTQ designers."

Whoa, Nelly: that's pretty damn cool of you.

At a time when tensions run especially high between America's new administration and women, people of color and the queer community (and all intersections), this is no doubt one subtle way of lending her support to the movement.
