Nick Carter has responded to former Dream singer Melissa Schuman's allegation that the Backstreet Boy raped her.

"I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations," Carter said, according to TMZ. "Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally.”

"This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later," the performer added. "It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”

Schuman claims that Carter sexually assaulted her during what was supposed to be a casual hangout at his Santa Monica apartment in the early 2000s.

The singer alleges that Carter performed oral sex on her against her wishes before forcing her to do the same for him and then taking her to his bedroom where her raped her.
