An original, still-sealed copy of Pink Floyd‘s 1975 album ‘Wish You Were Here’ recently sold on eBay for the astonishing price of $1,775.00 British Pounds, which comes out to $2753.20 in U.S. Dollars.

According to the seller, when ‘Wish You Were Here’ was originally released, it came packaged in plain black (or navy blue, depending on where you lived) shrink wrap. Obviously, despite Pink Floyd’s immense popularity at the time — this was the follow-up to ‘The Dark Side of the Moon,’ after all — some people had trouble identifying the new record at stores.

So a sticker featuring the now-well known hand-shaking robots was sent to stores to place on the records. This particular album dates from that time, and although it’s nearly impossible to tell it apart from the similarly packaged vinyl edition re-released earlier this year, the seller insists the authenticity of the item can be proven by it’s slightly darker shrink wrap coloring and the appearance of “small breath holes” around the front of the cover

This SHVL 814 Stereo copy is also promised to be in mint condition, and obviously that was enough for someone to lay down nearly three grand! That’s a large amount for a record that, as the listing states, “really isn’t supposed to be opened or played.” But if the proud new owner has another $32, they can buy a playable version as well.
