The Bachelorette made history on Monday (February 13) just in time for Valentine’s Day.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, ABC announced that the new Bachelorette will be current Bachelor contestant Rachel Lindsay, marking the first time (yes, really) either The Bachelorette or The Bachelor will be black.

Lindsay, who is currently still a contestant on Season 21 of The Bachelor with Nick Viall, is a Dallas attorney and was the first black contestant to ever receive the long-running show’s “first impression rose” during the season’s premiere.

Her confirmation as the Season 13 Bachelorette just so happens to spoil the current season of The Bachelor, revealing that she won’t be Viall’s final pick.

Speaking to Kimmel, Lindsay shared that casting for her season of the show is already underway and that it wasn’t long after The Bachelor ended that she found out she would be the next Bachelorette.

“It wasn’t that long after I got off the show that I was approached, but I honestly thought that they were doing it just to make me feel better from the heartbreak,” she joked.

As for the kind of man she hopes to meet during her time on the show, she revealed that she’s “looking for someone who’s ready for what [she’s] ready for.”

“At this point of my life, I’m 31, I’m ready to find a husband, someone who’s ready to start a family,” she dished, adding, “I’m looking for someone who can make me laugh, great smile.”

Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette, which first aired in 2003, premieres May 22, 2017. Watch the exciting announcement below:
