Rihanna to Receive MTV’s Video Vanguard Award at 2016 VMAs
Rihanna will soon join the ranks of Beyonce, Kanye West, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake when she takes the stage at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards to accept the network's Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The "We Found Love" singer made the announcement today (August 11) on Twitter, writing, "Honored to take the #VMAs stage as your video #VANGUARD award recipient LIVE from NYC on August 28!"
Rihanna -- who is also nominated for four VMAs, including Best Female Video for "Work" -- will also perform during the ceremony.
The award, created in 1984 and later named after Michael Jackson when he received it in 1991, is MTV's answer to a lifetime achievement award and is meant to honor artists whose careers have impacted pop culture in a major way.
Though MTV doesn’t dole out the Video Vanguard Award annually, they’ve been more consistent in past years, having awarded Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Kanye West in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Tune in to the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28 to watch Rihanna receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
