Sarah Hyland is focusing on herself after undergoing a second kidney transplant.

The Modern Family star is "doing great," a source told People, but isn't in the clear yet. While she's on the mend as far as her kidneys are concerned, the insider told the outlet her immune system is "vulnerable" and her mental health is a priority.

"She's now healthy when it comes to her kidneys. She's doing well, and her levels are all good," the insider claimed. "But she is taking immunosuppressant drugs that make her very vulnerable to germs and disease so she has to be cautious."

Hyland, 28, first opened up about her second kidney transplant in an interview with SELF released on Monday. She told the outlet that her first, from her father, failed. Hyland's brother Ian was a match and donated one of his kidneys to her.

The actress said the situation left her "very depressed," adding that she was "contemplating suicide" because she was afraid to let down her family after her first transplant rejected.

"Not only has all of this been physically demanding, but the emotional and mental demands have been just as challenging," the insider said. "She has a chronic illness and she will have to deal with it for the rest of her life. She's still working through it."

The source said that in addition to the procedure to deal with her kidney dysplasia, Hyland recently underwent a surgery related to her endometriosis, and still "has days when her endometriosis flares up and it's incredibly painful." She's trying to stay strong through it all.

"She always comes off so strong and bold, and she is. But this is also so crippling," the source said. "Still, it's made her a stronger person. She can't deal with pettiness. She is focused on her mental health and isn't really interested in reacting to Internet trolls. It's a waste of energy."
