Solange Tweets Frank Ocean’s Anti-Grammys Post After Beyonce Loses Album of the Year

Soon after Beyonce‘s tour-de-force Lemonade — an album of critical and commercial success that managed not only culturally relevance but was also fiercely entertaining in every aspect — lost Album of the Year at last night’s (February 12) Grammy Awards, the “Formation” singer’s sister, Solange, made her disappointment clear with a simple anti-Grammys cosign.

The “Cranes in the Sky” singer — who took home the award for Best R&B Performance — hinted at a possible Grammys boycott when she tweeted a link to Frank Ocean‘s recent Tumblr post, where he called out the Academy’s growing irrelevance, as well as their refusal to celebrate black artists with the show’s top awards.

Ocean’s post came as a direct response to Ken Ehrlich and David Wild, two members of the Grammys’ creative team, who addressed the Channel Orange singer’s notable absence from the prestigious awards show in an interview with Rolling Stone. They referred to his 2013 performance as “not great TV,” which prompted the reaction.

Ocean, who didn’t submit his 2016 release Blonde for Grammys consideration, clarified his decision to steer clear of the awards show moving forward, writing, in part:

Winning a TV award doesn’t christen me successful. It took me some time to learn that…I’ve actually been tuning into CBS around this time of year for a while to see who gets the top honor and you know what’s really not ‘great TV’ guys? 1989 getting album of the year over To Pimp A Butterfly. Hands down one of the most ‘faulty’ TV moments I’ve seen.

Beyonce’s Lemonade lost Album of the Year to Adele’s 25 — an injustice the “Hello” singer mentioned in her acceptance speech.

“…I can’t possibly accept this award,” Adele said. “And I’m very humbled and I’m very grateful and gracious but the artist of my life is Beyonce and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental, Beyonce.”
