One of the most talked-about winners of this year's MTV Video Music Awards was an artist who's yet to step upon the VMAs stage. In fact, she wasn't even nominated.

Teyana Taylor, a rapper and R&B artist who released 2014's VII through Kanye West's GOOD music and Def Jam, had a star-making turn at the VMAs on August 28 when she (and that body) appeared in the exclusive video premiere for  "FADE." The clip, which also featured her partner Iman Shumpert, mesmerized viewers and undoubtedly gave new meaning to her 2008 jam "Google Me." But surprisingly, some of the hotter-than-hot choreography she performed was originally meant for another VMAs MVP: Beyonce.

Speaking to Vogue after the awards show, Taylor explained that the "dance scene at the very, very end" was something she originally choreographed for a Beyonce video.

"Me and one of my homeboys Matthew Pasterisa actually made that choreography for Beyonce for when the 'End of Time' came out," the singer revealed. "She loved it but she wound up not being able to use it because she was pregnant, but back then the world didn’t know. All this time that choreography was just sitting there. And as soon as I was freestyling [for Kanye] it just came out naturally."

Taylor also shared that even though she had been told to expect the video to premiere at the VMAs, she wasn't sure if it would really happen—and when it did, it was the first time she had seen the finished product, just like the audience.

"We hadn’t even seen the video before [the show]. So when I heard that the video was going to be premiering at the VMAs, I was like 'Oh my god, it’s tonight! Do I look good? Do I look great? Is he going to change his mind and not premiere it?' At that point I had already told all of my family, but even when he went onstage and I saw him, I thought he might just wind up doing something completely different because you just never know with Kanye," she said.

"Then he said what he had to say and presented his video. My heart started beating so fast because it’s one thing to see a video, but to do the video and not see it and just to be in shock with everyone else, it was just crazy," the performer added. "When they played it and it said 'Teyana Taylor' and I was walking through the bars, I was like, 'Oh my god, it’s about to go down!'"

The "Maybe" singer also revealed that the collaboration came about after a chance run-in with West at a studio the two were both recording at. She told Vogue that after the video debuted, she knew she was about to have a moment.

"I was on Twitter and Instagram, but my phone was shaking because my hand was shaking. I was so nervous because it was really a do-or-die moment," she said. "I’ve worked so hard and I didn’t know that that moment was going to be that huge because I didn’t have time to mentally prepare."

"It’s emotional because I’ve been in the industry for so long and I’ve never understood why certain things weren’t happening. And now I feel like my story, everything that I’ve been through, makes this moment so much more special," Taylor gushed. "Though it took so long for this to happen, I don’t feel like it could’ve happened at a better time."
