I don't know how you like to celebrate the 4th of July, but I like to wake up early, do my outside chores while it's cool, then settle into the air conditioning with a taco lunch and marathon of good once-a-year movies.

Don't get me wrong, lake days are fun too. If I lived closer to home, I'd probably be out on the boat listening to my dad complain about the jetskis as we fish. I don't take my summer holiday until the middle of the month anyway, so tacos and movies are ideal for me.

Here's a quick rundown of the best movies to take on the 4th of July with.

    Independence Day

    Obviously, you can't properly celebrate Independence Day in the home theater without watching the 90s classic Independence Day.

    The effects look pretty goofy these days, but it's still entertaining as it can be, not to mention the incredible scripted speech Bill Pullman gives before the final battle.

    Truly, 10/10

    The sequel isn't nearly as good, but it's not bad.

    The Patriot

    You cannot celebrate Independence Day with movies and not watch The Patriot. It's probably the best flick depicting the Revolutionary War.

    Like Hollywood does with all stories, it may be based on a true story, but it's an incredibly loose "based on" tale. Still, you cannot help but feel immensely proud to be American, especially in that last push of the final battle.

    The Sandlot

    What's more American than baseball and hotdogs?

    It's the story of neighborhood kids coming together to save another from an incredibly dumb mistake. An all for one, one for all type story that culminates in a little-league game on the 4th of July.

    If you haven't seen it, you'll love it for-ehv-veerr.

    Saving Private Ryan

    In one of the best examples of America's love of freedom, this movie opens with one of the most intense and accurate portrayals of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

    The movie continues on with a plot that has nothing to do with July 4th, but it's an incredible movie nonetheless.

    Jaws

    You may never go in the water again after taking in the greatest 4th of July movie ever. Just like the classic Moby Dick, Jaws is a great story of a man and his hatred of a big fish.

    I can still remember the shock of seeing the shark for the first time. It was terrifying to a 12-year-old. The scene in the galley where Quint tells his tale of surviving the USS Indianapolis incident is second to none, maybe in all of cinema history.

    Being the original blockbuster movie, this is my go-to taco lunch flick after all my outdoor chores are done on Independence Day.

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

Unlike a lot of Oklahoma's most expensive homes, this one actually looks really well put together. Everything matches, one theme, etc... It's a rare case of the wealthy having good taste.
