The Top Five Valentine’s Gifts For That Special Someone (Him & Her)
By: Megan Bell
The month of Love is swiftly approaching. Have you thought of what to get that special person in your life this year? I have scoured the internet in search of the perfect gifts for your significant other to help you show them you love them and know what makes them smile from ear to ear.
Whether it’s making them breakfast on your finest china, putting together a basket of their favorite things, or creating a DIY project, the intent is all the same. You want to make the other person feel as special as they make you feel every day.
Gift baskets are a great way to put together a variety of her guilty pleasures. If she’s a major book worm, you could fill your basket with a new book, subscription to a book or magazine club, bookmark, blanket, candles, bottle of wine and/or bubble bath soap. If you figure out what she loves and be creative, then there’s no way you can go wrong.
Bouquets come in many different shapes and sizes. There is no unwritten law that says you have to stick with the generic bouquet of a dozen red roses. Fruit bouquets and cookie bouquets are both sweet and delicious. You can also do it yourself, and make a cupcake bouquet by getting a flower pot, placing a styrofoam ball inside, sticking toothpicks in the styrofoam and attaching homemade cupcakes to each toothpick.
Gift certificates for a manicure and pedicure, housecleaning, or massage are all wonderful because you’ll show her that you know she works just as hard as you do and could use a day to relax. You can even make your own coupons for her for a free foot massage or home cooked meal from you.
Whether it’s a weekend away at a bed and breakfast or a trip to visit that museum she’s been dying to see, it makes no difference. Any time away from her day-to-day busy schedule will be a breath of fresh air and help her take her mind off those daily stresses.
You don’t need to have kept the ticket stub to the first movie you saw with her or the first little note she wrote you. You can use a photo album, scrapbook, or just a notebook or journal and place photos inside of anything and everything- places you went together, movies you saw together, pictures of the two of you, or even individual pictures of each other. Write your favorite memories you’ve had with her and maybe even things you want to do or places you want to travel to with her. It’s a simple way to show her how much she means and the time you have spent with her means to you.
When it comes to your man, it’s not too difficult. He wants to feel appreciated, needed, and manly. Instead of using an actual basket, you can substitute a crate, or paint can, whatever you think would fit his personality the best. You can fill this “masculine” basket with socks, slippers, foot care products, coupon for a foot massage, watch, multi-tool keychain (Amazon.com), Kentucky Bourbon candle (Etsy.com), tickets to a sporting event, his favorite snacks, and/or beer. Also, if you browse through chocolateweapons.com, you can find a wide range of chocolate weapons you can purchase, such as a hand gun, ammo, and peanut butter filled 12 gauge shotgun shells.
If you follow the three B’s of creating manly bouquets - beef jerky, bacon, and booze - you’ll be set. What guy do you know that does not like beef jerky or bacon? They don’t exist. Beef jerky is easy to bundle together and put in a jar or whatever vessel you choose. You can wrap bacon at the end of a wooden stick or toothpick to cook it. Once they’re done, you can place the other end of the stick in a styrofoam ball in a flower pot, or bundle them together. It’s up to you on how you deliver your mouthwatering bacon bouquet. When it comes to the booze, it’s simple. Either replace bacon at the end of the sticks with mini liquor bottles or fill a bucket or paint can with an assortment of his favorite beer and/or liquor.
He can always use more outdoor gear, whether it’s for hunting, camping, fishing, grilling, or golfing, he will love it. I’m not saying you have to go out and purchase the latest hunting rifle, gas grill, or set of golf clubs. You can get him a new scope for his rifle, sleeping bag, fishing pole, grilling utensil set, or personalized golf balls.
All men need to shave. It doesn’t matter if they have only a little stubble or a face full of hair, they need to shave at some point. You can purchase an old fashioned shaving kit or the newest one on the market. He’ll love it and use it often. If he is one of those guys that loves his facial hair, maybe go in the direction of a beard trimmer and clippers rather than a razor.
He may act apathetic at times and like he doesn’t need a boost of confidence every once in a while, but that’s just man pride getting to him. Just like you, he wants to hear why you love him and your favorite memories you’ve enjoyed with him. One way you can show him is by getting a deck of 52 playing cards and gluing a piece of paper to each card with a reason why you love him. You can punch two holes on the left sides and bind them together with two metal rings. Also, you can get a mason jar and fill it with pieces of paper that say what you love about him, your favorite memories of the two of you, places you want to travel to with him, things you want to do with him this year, and maybe even things he doesn’t know about you yet. The pieces of paper can be folded hearts, or if you’re trying to go for a classier look, you can get kraft paper and cut it into small strips, roll it up like a scroll and tie it with a piece of baker’s twine.
