There’s a reason why Fred Rogers is one of the most beloved men in history. Despite all the countless accolades, awards, and prizes, Rogers is still considered grossly underrated by many. The numbers of children he helped grow up is impossible to measure. We will probably never know just how many generations this great speaker influenced.

In this iconic clip, Mr. Rogers sits at a piano and addresses all of his “neighbors,” young and old. He expresses how proud he is of us, that he loves us so much, and that there is nothing he enjoys more than meeting his fans. He closes the segment with a line that will have you reaching for a box of tissues:

“I would like to tell you what I often told you when you were much younger: I like you just the way you are.”

This clip was originally aired just after the 9/11 terrorists attacks on America, and mere months before Rogers died of stomach cancer at age 74. Thank you for everything, Fred. We’ll never forget you.
