It all begins this week.  Football is here.  Yes, it's only preseason, but if you've been waiting for six months to see more Football, it's like Christmas Eve.

My husband has already set the DVR to record the games.  He does this to make sure my shows won't interrupt his viewing.  I'm fine with that.  I love that he is passionate about things.  I don't so much love that he has actually broken furniture while screaming at his team.  Of course, he is a Washington fan, so there is a lot to scream about.

So if your TV will be otherwise occupied on Sundays, some Saturdays and Thursdays and Mondays . . . I thought I would get us started on a list of binge TV that is currently available on Netflix or Amazon.  Feel free to add to this list in the comment sections below and, if you see my husband, don't be mean.  He's a Cubs fan, too. . . he never catches a break.

Best Binge-worthy Shows For a Football Widow

  • Catastrophe:  Amazon Prime  This is freaking hilarious and if you are a fan of romantic comedy with British humor and irreverent undertones -- this is a great one.  There is language and sexual situations but nothing too crazy.  There has only been one season released but I've watched it twice it was so much fun.
  • Doctor Who:  Netflix  Yes, I have more than a little nerd in me.  I love The Doctor and, even if you don't know much about things like the TARDIS, you can catch on pretty quick.  It's fun, quirky and silly (at times) but there is always heart there, too.  A few episodes a week and you could stretch it out for the whole season.
  • The Newsroom:  Amazon Prime  This show had a lot of flaws in its three seasons on HBO.  What it did have, though, is the amazing writing of Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, The West Wing) and there were plenty super-righteous speeches that get your heart pumping.
  • The West Wing:  Netflix  Because if we are talking about Aaron Sorkin at his absolute BEST, this is it.  The Darin and I re-watched the entire series last year and it is shocking and surprising and amazing how many things he wrote into that show that were almost an exact prediction of what would happen in our country.  The writing is amazing, the acting is amazing and you won't be disappointed.  One suggestion:  they did a show after 9/11 called "Issac and Ishmael"  which is just too emotional for me, still.  I skip that episode every time. . .  there is no story in that episode so it is ok . . .
  • The Mindy Project: Amazon for Purchase  I think Mindy Kaling crawled into my head and stole my life to create her sitcom.  All things (except the being a successful doctor part) are way too me.  Even to the episode where she put a cup over a spider and left it there on her floor until someone could come get it and rescue it.  Totally done that.  I also have the grumpy, but loveable, romantic interest.
  • Gilmore Girls:  Netflix  Because I want to live in Stars Hollow and I want a relationship like that with my daughter (should I ever have one) and because Luke and Lorelai belong together and because it makes you smile.
  • Columbo:  Netflix  There is never a bad time for some awesome Peter Falk.  Yeah, it's old and stuff, but it is also fantastic.
  • Mad Men:  Netflix  If you watch too many episodes in a row, you just really hate everyone because they are all selfish bastards. . . but if you take it in small chunks, it's ok.
