In her earliest collaboration of 2018, Billie Eilish taps R&B vocalist Khalid for a dismal new melody, sarcastically dubbed "lovely."

Burning and blue at once, the 16-year-old singer-songwriter and Georgia native's duet is a harmonious call to arms of what lurks beyond the prisons of their shared melancholy.

"Tear me to pieces, skin and bone / Hello, welcome home" the pair bemoan as the ballad enters its icy chorus, controlled throughout with simplistic piano strokes while a violin score undulates in the background.

To promote the new single, Eilish shared a playlist video of the new tune exclusive to Spotify members on Twitter, which depicts the singers trapped inside a glassed enclosure confining them from the outside world.

"'lovely' is just, I mean, we called it that 'cause the song is sort of really freaking depressing," Eilish explained to Zane Lowe of the track's sardonic title. "Just, like, taking everything horrible and just, 'You know what, this is great. I'm so happy being miserable."

Of getting the 20-year-old "Location" star to hop on the record, the "Ocean Eyes" songbird said the song-writing process was organic and arose quite spontaneously after the two hung out together at Eilish's residence.

"Me and my brother hung out with Khalid at our house… it was like, literally, this is us hanging out as friends and then we ended up writing a song."

"lovely," along with her first new single of the year, "bitches broken hearts," will reportedly feature on Eilish's forthcoming untitled debut LP, rumored for release sometime in 2018.
