Brendon Urie Making Broadway Debut in ‘Kinky Boots': He Comes to the Rescue
Brendon Urie's coming to the rescue: The Panic! at the Disco frontman is taking over the lead role in Broadway favorite production Kinky Boots, and he's ready to storm the Land of Lola.
Urie will play the Charlie Price in the show and will kick off his tenure on May 26 at New York City's Al Hirschfeld Theater, according to Playbill. He'll take over for Olivier Award nominee Killian Donnelly, who originally fronted the London production, and said he can't wait for opening night.
“I’m thrilled to be making my Broadway debut with this fantastic company,” Urie said. “I’m a huge fan of Kinky Boots and musical theatre, and am honored to be joining this cast.”
"This has been on my bucket list for the longest time," he added in a video uploaded to Twitter. "It really is a dream come true. I'm so incredibly excited...plus, you guys get to see me in those heels now."
"i guess my first trip to New York is about to happen?" one avowed fan responded, while another noted "I don't know what the f--- kinky boots is but suddenly I stan it."
Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price, a man who inherits his father's shoe factory. Charlie eventually befriends a drag queen named Lola, with whom he teams up to sell a particular line of high-heeled boots that have the potential to save the family business. The show made its Broadway debut in 2013.
