It really is that tough out here in the real world. Groceries are more expensive than some of the bills we're paying and it's getting more and more difficult to make ends meet. It's gotten so rough that the thought of dumpster diving has come up - after all, what if you really do find some treasure in the trash?

But the big question is:

Are you allowed to do it?

There are lots of things people do all of the time, even if it isn't legal. Speeding, poaching, taking a bite out of another person's burger (yes it really is illegal). So let's get rid of the idea "everyone else does it so why can't I?"

@sidehustleobsessed Even when it’s legal, there’s still rules! #dumpsterdiving #reducereuserecycle #resell #fyp #hauloftheday ♬ original sound - Casey

Technically speaking, dumpster diving is legal in Oklahoma. There isn't a law that explicitly states that you can't dumpster dive, but you do have to make sure you're following other laws and regulations.

You don't want to do things like trespassing on private party, loitering, disorderly conduct and littering. Even if you're on the hunt, you can still be held accountable for breaking these other local regulations.

Can You Actually Make Money Dumpster Diving?

Depends on what you're finding and if you're able to get these goods sold. Some folks have had great success finding perfectly good electronics, furniture, toys, etc. and reselling them on Craigslist. Side note: I now am rethinking every Craigslist buy I've ever had.

Keep in mind that businesses who get rid of goods, like clothing and make up, will usually mess up the product to prevent people from being able to resell it after finding it in the trash.

But that doesn't mean you can't put your own elbow grease in there and fix up a few things. After all, a buck is a buck right?

Happy diving!
