
American Airlines Flight From Tulsa Landed In D.C. 10 Minutes Before Plane Crash
On Wednesday, Jan. 29, an American Airlines passenger airplane collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter killing 67 people aboard both aircraft. Ten minutes before the crash, an American Airlines flight from Tulsa landed on the same runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
KJRH Journalist Erin Christy posted to her official Facebook on Thursday, Jan. 30 reporting that FlightAware, a real-time flight tracking database, showed that an American Airlines flight arrived at the airport in Washington D.C. from Tulsa 10 minutes before the crash between American Airlines flight 5342 and the helicopter.
The passenger jet and the helicopter collided near the airport runway.
The passenger jet and the helicopter collided shortly before 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The collision occurred at a low altitude and near an airport runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The American Airlines jet was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members from Wichita, Kan. to Washington D.C. And the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter was carrying three crew members taking part in a "required, annual training exercise," according Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The unit involved was the Bravo Company, 12th Aviation Battalion, and were flying out of Fort Belvoir in Virginia.
The American Airlines flight from Tulsa to Washington D.C. landed on the same runway at 8:42 p.m. EST.

On Friday, Jan. 31, NPR reported that authorities are rescanning the Potomac River in search of victims and clues behind the crash. The midair collision has been described as the deadliest U.S. air crash in over 20 years. The D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo reported that as of Thursday night, 41 bodies had been recovered from the Potomac River.
Cockpit voice, flight data and recording device have been recovered from both aircrafts.
Key pieces from both the passenger jet and helicopter have been recovered. Authorities were able to retrieve the cockpit voice and flight data from the passenger jet and the recording device from the helicopter. These pieces will be able to indicate what occurred before the crash took place.
