The Fall Bass Bite Is On Across Oklahoma
While the fall temps are generally new to portions of the state to the West, South, and Southwest, the early seasonal change has hit some of the best fishing lakes across the state.
A lot of anglers hold tight to some old fisherman tales of when the best time to go fishing is. They say things like "Fishing's no good when the wind is out of the East" and "Cold fronts drive the fish off the bite." Practically the only one I believe is that fish don't bite in the hot summer temps, but only because I don't like going fishing when it's 110° outside. Other than that, none of those sayings appear to be a concrete truth.
Granted, there are many times I ventured out to a Wichita Mountains lake during "poor" weather and caught nothing but a good time, but there's an equal amount of lake trips during those same periods of bad weather that paid off gangbusters.
The upside to fall fishing in the cooler temps is this... Fish are voracious for whatever reason leading up to winter. Even then, they don't hibernate, they just don't need to eat as much with their cold water slow metabolisms.
If you haven't been fishing yet, you should get out on the lake as much as possible between now and Christmas. Every weather source out there is pointing to a very long and enjoyable fall.
