2025 was a busy year in Oklahoma. New places opened, big headlines happened, and the state had its usual run of “can you believe that?” moments. But just as interesting are the things that didn’t happen. The stories we were told to circle on the calendar, then quietly watched slide to the side.

Let’s start with the one everyone keeps asking about.

Buc-ee's

No, Oklahoma still does not have a local source for Beaver Nuggets.

The company made it clear they were looking around the Sooner State, and for a while, it felt like that announcement was right around the corner. Insiders continue to hint that Chickasha is the spot, and that rumor refuses to die. But until Buc-ee’s says it out loud, we’re still just guessing and driving past that I-44 Love's left wondering what could be.

American Heartland Theme Park.

It was supposed to partially open in 2025. That was the pitch. Then the websites went dark, lawsuits started stacking up, and suddenly nobody was cutting ribbon or selling tickets. At some point, it became pretty clear this wasn’t happening yet. Developers still say it’s alive, just delayed. Oklahoma has heard that before.

Amtrak had a moment too.

Plans to extend the Heartland Flyer from OKC up to Manhattan, Kansas were hyped up. When the Texas portion of the line was nearly shut down, small towns across northern Oklahoma started dusting off old depots like the train was rolling in tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Tulsa to OKC line stayed stuck in feasibility studies, and the OKC to Lawton route basically vanished from conversation altogether.

Okiewood

Hollywood was also supposed to show up in a big way.

Early 2025 talk made it sound like Oklahoma was about to become the next major filming hotspot. While some projects still happen here, even Tulsa King, the show that kicked off much of the excitement, packed up and moved to Georgia. So much for that momentum.

Legends Tower

Bricktown was supposed to see construction begin on what was billed as the tallest building in the hemisphere. That’s a massive swing for Oklahoma. As of now, progress has been slow, but developers insist it’s still happening.

That’s kind of the theme here. Delayed, stalled, postponed, but not dead.

In Oklahoma, big ideas rarely disappear. They just hang around, waiting for their moment.
