Prepare For More Severe Thunderstorms In Southwest Oklahoma Tonight
With a little over 24 hours break in the weather, severe thunderstorms are forecasted to sweep through Southwest Oklahoma again Thursday night as the state rolls into May 2nd.
On deck for the evening are high winds, large hail, and a low risk of tornadoes.
Some weather outlets are spooking the locals toting the risk of "gorilla hail," but the National Weather Service - who is almost always on the conservative side - insists the chance for anything above ping pong ball-size is low, but possible.
While the tornado potential is low, storm chasers are starting to stack up across Southwest Oklahoma, particularly between Lawton and Wichita Falls, TX, prepping for the chance to do whatever it is they do.
Does that mean tornadoes are expected? Meh... Chasing tornadoes is a lot like fishing. You know fish are in THAT lake, but it never means you're going to actually catch anything. If there were any guarantees, they'd just call it catching, wouldn't they?
When will it all crack off?
It's going to be another long night of storms if the forecast holds true. Western SWOK will start seeing storms around 10 PM, Eastern SWOK will see them around Midnight, and Southern SWOK will get their weather in the early hours of Friday.
Thursday/Friday won't be the end of it.
Even with widespread flooding across a swath of Oklahoma already, tonight won't be the last of the rain for at least another week.
May is generally one of the wetter months in any given year, and the rains will continue over the next week.
