Injuries While Working On Your Lawn are More Common Than You Think
When it comes to lawn care, most homeowners take care of their lawns themselves. Those who can afford it may hire someone to mow and maintain their lawns. Lawn care is essential, otherwise, you'll end up living in a jungle.
When working on the lawn most people don't expect to get injured however, it happens more than you think. Most people have small injuries, those that occur when your lawnmower or weedeater, throws debris and it hits you causing cuts or bruises. Those working on their lawns don't experience life-threatening injuries.
Most people who work on their lawns have been doing this for more than 15 years and got their lawn start as a teenager, and some before their teenage years. Those who do their lawn work, have less than a 1/4 acre of land to mow.
How Many People Injure Themselves?
While most people don't injure themselves while doing lawn work, minor injuries are treated at home with a bandaid and ointment, but at least 8% of people have injured themselves enough to have to seek medical attention. Most injuries occur while picking up debris from the lawn or heavy objects.
What is the Most Common Injury?
Cuts are the most common injury, followed by insect bites or stings. While being hit by a flying object were in the middle. Hearing damage is the least common injury but does occur in 8% of lawn injuries.
How Much Money is Spent on Lawn Care Injuries?
Less than 1% of lawn care injuries result in medical bills over $20,000, while 1% have bills over $10,000 and almost 18% have bills under $1,000. Most of these injuries do not cause any money loss.
