Selena Gomez's next family dinner is shaping up to be an awkward one.

Gomez, who'll star in the upcoming Woody Allen comedy A Rainy Day in New York, has come under fire from fans, who say Gomez should have stayed away from the project  (Allen's daughter Dylan Farrow accused Allen of molesting her when she was 7 years old, but he has denied any wrongdoing).

And when Gomez's mother Mandy Teefey was asked on Instagram why Gomez agreed to appear in the film, Teefey didn't hold back, and said she pleaded with her daughter to stay out of it.

"Sorry, No one can make Selena do anything she doesn’t want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn’t click,” Teefey wrote in reply to a comment. “Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.”

A Rainy Day in New York also stars Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, and Jude Law, though Chalamet has said he'll donate all of his earnings from the movie to charity.

"I have been asked in a few recent interviews about my decision to work on a film with Woody Allen last summer," he wrote in an Instagram post. "I'm not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations. But what I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities."
