Formerly, this disease was referred to as “2019 novel coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV”. There are many types of human coronaviruses including some that commonly cause mild upper-respiratory tract illnesses. COVID-19 is a new disease, caused be a novel (or new) coronavirus that has not previously been seen in humans. The name of this disease was selected following the World Health Organization (WHO) best practiceexternal icon for naming of new human infectious diseases.

Sadly another business in Lawton, Fort Sill is closing. The Sara Lee Bread Store located at 2701 S.W. Lee Blvd is closing it's doors for good. While there isn't a whole lot of details on the closing, we're pretty sure the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdowns had a lot to do with it. We've lost count as far as how many businesses here in town have had to shut their doors permanently due to the virus.

The Chick-fil-A on Cache Road is back open today (08-19-20) after being temporally shutdown due to COVID-19 concerns. The entire restaurant has been completely strip cleaned inside and out and thoroughly sanitized after last week's exposure to the Coronavirus. They'll be open from 10:30am to 8:00pm and I'll be hitting the drive-thru for lunch today to get my chicken on. It's great to have them back up and running.

Yesterday the city council met to hear arguments both for and against the city's mandatory face mask ordinance. The mask ordinance went into effect back on July 17th (07-17-20) when the council passed the new mandate and it remains in effect currently. Those apposed asked the council back on July 28th (07-28-20) to repeal the measure and yesterday's meeting was an acknowledgement of that.
