BEWARE. There's a new, or a new spin on a recent scam making the rounds in Lawton, Fort Sill. Whatever you do DON'T FALL FOR IT. It's very similar to the scam we reported several months ago where you'd receive a random call from an unknown number. The person on the phone tells you, or leaves a message saying they're with the Lawton Police Department. They may even say they're an officer and that there's a warrant out for your arrest. They instruct you to pay a fine or be taken to jail. IT'S A SCAM!

There's a new scam in town, don't fall for it. Looks like some scammers are spending their time quarantined thinking up new ways to dupe you into giving them personal information or cash.
The Green Dot Card is a reloadable, prepaid card you can pick up at grocery stores, big box stores and others. It's also a part of a huge number of scams that are sweeping the country and, most recently, in Lawton.
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) would like to make the public aware of a scam that is occurring in Oklahoma and other states. Scammers are calling people and claiming to be with the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
There's a lot of people scamming others out of their hard earned cash, especially around this time of year. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of people who could genuinely use some help and are honest about their situation. On the other hand you have people like this lady who scam people with a sob story and are dishonest about what they're doing. I hate seeing this type of thing.

You get a phone call. The caller gives you a name and an important-sounding title and says you didn't report to Jury Duty. They give you dates and times you were supposed to be there. You say, "I didn't know I had jury duty!" They tell you there is now a warrant out for your arrest.
