Most of the entertainment world learned this week that the 'I left my Heart in San Francisco' singer, Tony Bennett revealed that he is suffering with an Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Unfortunately more and more of these revelations will be coming until a cure is found for this disease that robs memories, motor skills and finally life from those who are living with Alzheimer's Disease.

March will mark 3 years since we lost our precious Momma to this killer.  When we first noticed that she was 'more than just forgetful', we tried very hard to care for her at home surrounded by her things and familiar rooms.  We lasted nearly two years caring for her at home, but we realized that we just didn't have the skills to take care of her that was safe for both her and us.

The Alzheimer's Association was so valuable to us as we tread the dark waters of the disease.  We got lots of information about what to expect, but we weren't lucky enough to be able to have the training that could have allowed us to care for Mom at home a little longer.

The Savvy Caregiver is for non-professional, in-home caregivers looking to strengthen their understanding of dementia and learn techniques to manage the activities of daily living.

The class takes place over four days, two hours per day. Registering as far in advance as possible is helpful, as the participants receive a course binder ahead of time, and the class size is limited. We hope if you are a caregiver, you'll sign up, or share with the dementia caregivers you know. The class is held virtually over Zoom, and there is no cost associated with it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email phuckabaa@alz.org.
