It's been six long months now since we've been able to go to the movies. Theaters across the country had to close down temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in March. Well we have some good news. The AMC Patriot 13 IMAX theater has reopened in Lawton located at 2803 NW 67th Street.

At this time there's a limited number of movies showing but they've got The New Mutants, Tenet, Unhinged, The Personal History of David Copperfield, Words on Bathroom Walls, Inception and Rocky IV. For details and showtimes visit the AMC Patriot 13 official website. I'm really looking forward to seeing The New Mutants, maybe this Labor Day weekend I'll get a chance to check it out on the big screen.

They've also had to reduce their menu at the concession stand. Of course you'll be able to get packaged candies, popcorn and drinks but some of the other cooked menu items aren't available at this time.

Showtimes or screenings are limited or reduced to allow for clean up, sanitation and all the required CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention) COVID-19 safety protocols. The theater is completely cleaned between each showing. They've also updated the ventilation systems with greater filtration and the new system no longer recycles the air. This is safer than traditional HVAC and reduces the risk of spreading COVID-19.

All the usual CDC recommendations and safety precautions are in place. Just like all the other businesses in Lawton, Fort Sill you'll have to wear a face mask or covering while inside. You can take it off, or lower it if you're eating or drinking. Otherwise a face mask must be worn at all times. Social distancing is also required and there are signs everywhere to remind patrons to adhere to the regulations.

So will you and your family be going to the movies anytime soon? Some health care professionals advise against it and the COVID-19 experts say it's still too soon. Considering the kids are back in school and most of everything else has reopened I wonder if it's any more or less dangerous than what we've been doing. What are your thoughts? Take the poll below and let us know what you think.
