What’s Expiring From Netflix: September 2016
September is bringing a whole slew of new titles to Netflix Instant, but that also means a bunch are on their way out. You know you need to weep to ‘A Walk to Remember’ one more time, but you also better cross ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’ off your list before it’s gone for good. Just make sure you leave time for a double feature of ‘Zoolander’ and ‘Crocodile Dundee.’ Also what the heck is ‘My Babysitter’s a Vampire: The Movie?’ I don’t know, but I think you need to add it to your queue immediately before you miss this opportunity.
Ranking the Best, Cutest, and Coolest Cats In Movie History
We’ve seen cats do almost everything in the movies. Fight evil witches, use human toilets, go on epic adventures, and become cryogenically frozen. Just when you thought you’d seen it all, you realize one essential movie of the cat genre was missing: a Kevin Spacey cat movie.
Rebel Wilson To Star In a Gender-Swapped Remake of ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’
Welcome to the latest Hollywood trend: the gender-swap remake. Following news of a gender-swapped remake of ‘Splash’ starring Channing Tatum as the one with the fish tail, Variety reports the next big remake on the docket is 1988's ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.’ Rebel Wilson will star in the MGM remake, which swaps the original two con men for two con women.
The Gay Characters of ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Are Progress, But Is It Enough?
You’ll find something in this year’s summer movies that has never happened before: two gay couples in two major franchise films. Considering the scarcity of LGBTQ characters in Hollywood, that’s a pretty big deal.
New ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Set Photos Reveal New Aliens, Plus Billie Lourd Returns For Bigger Role
It’s no surprise the set of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is under the tightest of tight security. The set of the Rian Johnson film has reportedly been equipped with drones and 600 security guards to prevent any passerby from leaking footage. Yet the age of cell phone cameras and social media, no set goes unleaked.
Here’s How ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Is (and Is Not) Connected to ‘Cloverfield’
‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ is as sneaky as movies come. No one had any idea the ‘Cloverfield’ universe was being continued until a trailer for the mysterious movie appeared in front of Michael Bay’s ‘13 Hours’ on January 14, a mere two months before its release this Friday. Only scant details about the movie have been revealed in trailers, photos and through fans decoding its vast viral marketing, reminiscent to the unveiling of ‘Cloverfield’ nine years ago. But now that we’ve finally seen the new movie, we can tell you just how it is, and mostly isn’t, related to Matt Reeves’ 2008 monster movie. If you want to remain completely surprised, check out our spoiler-free review. Otherwise, continue into very spoilery territory where we will ruin some big plot twists. You’ve been warned!

Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor Oscar For ‘The Revenant’
IT FINALLY HAPPENED. Leonardo DiCaprio has won his very first Academy Award. Whether you were rooting for or against ‘The Revenant’, whether you think he deserved the award for his grunting and groaning as Hugh Glass or just wanted him to win a damn Oscar already, it doesn’t matter. He’s officially in the Oscar club now.
Alejandro Iñarittu Wins Best Director for ‘The Revenant,’ Makes Oscar History
Alejandro G. Iñarritu just made Oscar history. ‘The Revenant’ filmmaker took home the Academy Award for Best Director on Sunday, the third time in the awards’ history a director has won in two consecutive years. Joseph L. Mankiewicz was the last director to win the award back-to-back in 1950 and 1951, following John Ford’s ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ and ‘How Green Was My Valley’ wins in 1941 and 1942, respectively.
‘Better Call Saul’ Season 2 Review: The ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel Is Sharper Than Ever
Bob Odenkirk‘s Jimmy McGill is a character of continually shifting morals. In the first season of Vince Gilligan‘s ‘Better Call Saul’ we got to know the man who would go on to become ‘Breaking Bad‘s shady criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. Circa 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico Jimmy was a nobody working as a public defender, a one-man law firm who (mostly) tried to do the right thing. But the first season also hinted at his underlying con man persona, Slippin’ Jimmy, the nickname given to him as a kid for faking car accident injuries and conning drivers into paying him to keep quiet. In the season two premiere of ‘Better Call Saul’ we see even more fragments of a man riding ethical lines, further revealing Jimmy as the most complex character to emerge out of the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe next to Walter White.
