Barry Manilow Saves The Music In Joplin, Mo For It’s Kids
The out pouring of love to the Joplin, Missouri community continued today as singer Barry Manilow showed up in Joplin, MO with 3 truck loads of band instruments worth 300,00 for the youth of Joplin. Mr. Manilow is using his Manilow Music Project to refurbish the instruments, sheet music and more the band lost when the town of Joplin was ravaged by a tornado last May 22.
Barry had some help in this awesome show of love to the Joplin community as local Joplin residents Dr. Michael Fitterling and his wife, Margie, reached out to Manilow’s non-profit for help with the band’s fundraising drive, and the project responded with more than the school’s music department imagined $300,000 worth of brand new instruments.
I lived in Joplin, Missouri for three great years where I was on the radio and Joplin, Missouri and its people will always be near and dear to my heart. So you can only imagine the heartache that I have felt for Joplin and my friends still in Joplin since the devastating EF5 multiple-vortex tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri, on Sunday May 22 of this year. I have been reluctant about posting about the tornado that took place on May 22, 2011 because I wasn't there and I had many friends that lost everything they owned and have had to start from scratch and I didn't want to exploit them or what they and the town of Joplin, Missouri has been going through. So I am finally breaking my silence to simple say I love you Joplin and thank you Barry Manilow and Fitterling Dentistry and everyone else that has stepped up and helped out the Joplin community since the tornado. HOPE FOR JOPLIN!
