Billy Joel has pulled the plug on his memoir, The Book of Joel.  He turned in a finished manuscript to HarperCollins, who was going to publish 250,000 copies in June, but he says,

"It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I'm not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music."

Of course, outside of the 2007 single "All My Life" and a classical piece -- 2001's Opus 1-10 Fantasies and Delusions - Music for Solo Piano -- Joel hasn't recorded any new music since 1993's River of Dreams.

Joel, whose deal was reported to be worth seven figures, is not the first artist to back out of a publishing deal.  Mick Jagger was going to write his autobiography in the early 80's but he claimed to not remember anything of interest.
