Animals & Fun For Free At Oklahoma’s County Free Fairs
In Oklahoma, a "free fair" isn't just free - it's usually including livestock show and other agricultural-related fun. At the bigger fairs, the carnival usually comes along with the event, like at the Osage County Free Fair.
But free fairs even happen in itty-bitty communities, like Fletcher, Oklahoma. Most of their attractions and games are ran by classmen from the local highschool and are a great way to bring business to small town communities.
Sometimes they start small, but free fairs can definitely get big; just take, for example, the largest state fair in Oklahoma that originally started at the Tulsa County Free Fair.
Free fairs are a great way for communities to learn about agricultural lifestyles and businesses, especially with livestock shows.
These are special competitions where students present different classes of livestock like sheep, pigs, goats, chickens and more. The animals are judged and placed on how well they look and are built for their purpose - breeding or market.
Some fairs even have special hands-on events, like farmhand olympics are "farm days" events showing off crops, harvesting, tractors and other important parts of farming.
It's usually an event for all ages, even the older folks, like in Hydro, Oklahoma who hosts a special dance for those who actually know how to do traditional dances anymore.

If you're visiting the bigger fairs, just remember that the carnival is usually a seperate entity and is not free, but the fair's exhibits, contests and shows are! Take a look at the gallery below to Oklahoma's County Free Fairs across the state.
